A Mind Flowing With Creativity

My name is Haven Leann Knight and I'm a front-end web designer / developer from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Welcome to my online portfolio, showcasing some of my best work. These are sites I have put extensive hours into, and I think you'll notice I put my heart into them as well, because that's what I tend to do with every project.

As a kid growing up, instead of playing outside I would be found sitting at the computer playing many different games. As I grew up, the layout, design, and style of all those screens intrigued me and I wanted to one day see something on a screen that I created myself.

In high school, for 3 years I attended Franklin County Career and Technology Center for Marketing and Web Design. After graduating I then attended Pittsburgh Technical College to acquire my Associate in Science Degree in Multimedia Technologies. It was at college that I found my main strengths lie in front-end web development: visual styling and layout, HTML and CSS, and the occasional venture into PHP and JavaScript.

Honeybee Cocoa E-Commerce Site

Talent Showcased

Front & Back-end Development

Objective

To sell a variety of different food products.

Target Audience

Young adults and adults

Highlights

  • Product data (such as names, prices, and images) are stored using a MySQL database, and hand-written PHP commands display that information on various pages throughout the site.
  • The page styling was given a playful, appetizing look through use of a color scheme of yellow, orange, tan and brown, and style elements such as honeycomb pattern and slick, rounded edges.
  • The site was designed to guide the user to the product info, starting on the homepage, where high-quality product imagery will attract the user to a call to action button that leads to the Products page.
  • A custom-made content management system gives the user additional privileges, such as adding & deleting a product, but only after logging on as an admin. You are invited to try this by logging in with the username "admin" and password "admin".
  • On the Reviews page, user testimonials are stored in an XML file and are brought in using PHP.

Silver Oak National Park Website

Talent Showcased

Front & Back-end Development

Objective

To promote the park.

Target Audience

Men with families

Highlights

  • It was decided to create this site using WordPress, so that the site's owner could easily change the content in the future.
  • A custom WordPress theme was developed by hand, so that the page style and layout would not be limited by the constraints of a pre-existing template or layout.
  • The challenge for this promotion was to try to appeal to men with families. So the visual design was given a masculine feel, through use of darker colors, such as forest greens, browns, whites, and creams, as well as a subtle map texture, sharp edges on panels, and bold fonts.
  • WordPress plug-ins were installed to help increase the site's efficiency: W3 Total Cache stores a static copy of the pages, makes the CSS/HTML/JavaScript files smaller, and handles content delivery network uploads. And WordPress CEO By Yoast helps you to optimize your content and automatically creates XML sitemaps to submit to Google.
